Drivers want to see learners given accompanied motorway lessons before passing their test, according to RAC research.

Up to eight in ten motorists agreed that the under-review proposal is a good idea. Across the survey of over 2,000 drivers only 14% thought they were fully prepared to drive on the motorway after passing their test.

Statistically motorways are the safest roads in the country, many new drivers are still nervous about using them for the first time, mainly because of the high speeds involved.
