The sound of quacking ducks could replace car horn sounds as it is found to be a more agreeable noise.
Researchers in South Korea have found a duck like beep is far friendlier for passing pedestrians, so have designed the new horn in a bid to reduce noise pollution in built up areas.
The researchers from Soongsil University used 100 volunteers in a bid to find a noise which would alert people to danger, without causing undue stress to those in the area, after a survey found passers-by felt stressed by the current noises.
Lead Researcher, Professor Myung-Jin Bae, has said “In our study we used the existing historic Klaxon sound source, but made some modification concerning its volume and rhythm with duration time by adding a power controller. Our new Klaxon sound can immediately alert the pedestrians of the danger while also reducing the unpleasantness and stress of the sound.”
