Last Friday, with the Used Cars of Bristol showroom closed for the day due to bad weather, Sales Manager Rob Buckland posted on Facebook that he was available to help transport Doctors, Nurses, Carers and others stranded by the bad weather in his Land Rover Defender.

Throughout the day, Rob completed vital trips for 15 people, including taking an elderly man home from Southmead Hospital to Tockington, who had been stuck there overnight. He also drove nurses and carers around homes in the Hartcliffe and Bishopsworth. Rob refused payment from all passengers and requested that they donate any offer to charity instead.

Used Cars of Bristol’s offer of help was seen by over 110,000 people, and was shared over 1000 times on Facebook, leading to a very busy day battling the snow!

Rob Buckland said “I think I did about 15 trips all around Bristol in the end, mainly transporting Nurses, Carers and Patients to and from the Bristol Royal Infirmary. It was quite a challenge and I was exhausted by the end of a very long day, but it felt great to help the people in our city.”

On Facebook, members of the public paid tribute to Rob’s efforts:

Ollie Fowler said: What an absolute gentleman. Took my girlfriend into work (BRI) and refused any money (even advised to put the money into a charity box). Refreshing to see there are still people of this nature around.”

Kay Morrison said: Would like to thank the owner of Used Cars of Bristol for giving his time and dedication to help those in need working in the nursing homes and hospitals so we can look after others in need, you’re a true gentleman.

Jean Stephens said: People are so caring. Xxx

Dealership owner and brother Sam Buckland commented: “I’m extremely proud of Rob, and that as a company we were able to use our resources to contribute to keeping the local hospitals running throughout a difficult few days.”.
